Wireless VoIP Advantages
Wireless VoIP has no wires. When you are using wireless VoIP, you are not connected to Public Safety Answering Point System (911) and a local operator using switchboard technology can’t trace it. Wireless VoIP acts completely in contrast to the PSTN- the Public Switched Telephone Network. Even though, the FCC and the FBI would like to apply the same rules to VoIP as it does to every other telephone service. Wireless VoIP technology has existed for some time, but is now being recognized by the mainstream as a viable substitute to regular telephone service. You may think that why some would even want to leave behind the telephones our Great-Grandparents knew and loved and opt for these wireless VoIP replacements, yet the reasons and facts are clearly visible. Advantages Of Wireless VoIPWireless VoIP presents many advantages, features, and cost savings that are not offered with standard telephone service. The following are the features related to Wireless VoIP:
Users also appreciate the flexibility and freedom offered with using your Internet connection to not only handle your telephone needs, but your E-mail requirements, Video and Web cam requirements and Web application requirements as well. Wireless VoIP with this integration of various features has proved extremely advantageous to small business owners. All of these advantages have contributed to the rise and popularity of VoIP services. Flaws Of Wireless VoIPHowever, there some flaws associated with Wireless VoIP. For example, there is a big problem with the integration of Wireless VoIP technology and the Emergency 911 system. For many years the Emergency system has been developing based upon the PSTN networks. Everyone knows that in case of an emergency, they can call 911 and help will be on the way. Yet, not was the case with many of Wireless VoIP’S early customers. Unfortunately, 911 had no way of tracing VoIP calls due to the fact that VoIP is wireless. The US government’s response to the issue seems short of shutting down Wireless VoIP in favor of landlines. However, the FCC ruled that customers will be necessary to sign a statement that they acknowledge that their 911 services may be impaired due to Wireless VoIP. Wireless VoIP providers have responded by including Enhanced 911 services and for allowing users to call and register their personal information with 911. Yet the fact remains, that a 911 operator cannot trace the wireless VoIP call back to the location of the user. Time will tell where the Emergency debate will end up. But for now, it is recommended that wireless VoIP users for the ability to have direct access to 911 should maintain a landline phone or cell phone solely if needed. Wiretapping The Wireless VoIP911 is not the only problem with wireless VoIP. It is not possible to tap the dangerous calls made from a wireless VoIP. How do you wiretap the wireless? Well, VoIP is the same technology, Packet Switching, which is used by Instant Messaging services E-mails, gamers who are communicating, and Video Email programs. Future can only provide solution for this flaw of Wireless VoIP. Yet we can rest assured that while Wireless VoIP continues to gather strength and become a terrible force in the telecommunications arena, that products will change, services will be enhanced, and many of the issues will be addressed and resolved. So, till then, remember to work with your wireless VoIP service provider, register yourself to 911 and enjoy the Wireless VoIP services provided to you. Don’t misuse your Wireless VoIP provider by doing illicit activities as you cannot be traced. |
